Therapy for Autism

Evidence-Based Therapy Programs

Our occupational therapy services for individuals on the autism spectrum are grounded in evidence-based practice, ensuring high-quality and effective care. Each intervention is tailored to meet individual needs and delivered through a range of specialised programs.

Early Intervention Programs

Early support is critical for children with autism, as it helps reduce developmental delays and builds strong foundations for learning. Our early intervention services include:

Early Detection: identifying developmental concerns as soon as possible to provide timely assistance.

Targeted Strategies: tailoring interventions to each child’s unique profile for more meaningful outcomes.

Family Involvement: actively engaging parents and caregivers to reinforce progress across home and community settings.

Sensory Integration Therapy

For children experiencing sensory processing challenges, we provide structured therapy designed to:

  • Strengthen sensory modulation and discrimination, enabling appropriate responses to sensory input.

  • Support the child’s ability to process and integrate sensory experiences through guided activities.

  • Offer customised sensory-based interventions to promote attention, emotional regulation, and participation.

By delivering these experiences in a safe, supportive environment, children can develop stronger sensory processing skills that enhance learning, behaviour, and everyday engagement.

Developing Social Skills

Building social skills is central to supporting children with autism in forming connections and thriving in group settings. We use approaches such as:

  • Role-Play: rehearsing social situations to increase confidence and readiness.

  • Group Activities: facilitating peer interaction in school, kindergarten, and holiday programs.

  • Social Stories: using visual and written narratives to teach social rules and cues.

These methods help children practice communication, sharing, turn-taking, and interpreting social cues: skills essential for friendships and school participation.

Enhancing Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Motor skill development underpins independence and participation. Our therapy focuses on:

  • Fine Motor Skills: improving hand strength, coordination, and dexterity.

  • Gross Motor Skills: building balance, coordination, and core strength.

  • Play-Based Approaches: engaging children in fun, motivating activities that encourage skill generalisation to everyday life.

Through active, play-based therapy, children strengthen both fine and gross motor skills while enjoying the process of learning.

Scheduling and Communication

We support individuals who are non-verbal or who experience difficulties with speech and communication to increase their independence and ability to make choices.

Working alongside speech pathologists, our occupational therapists help people express their needs, preferences, and emotions through alternative methods. This may include the use of visual schedules, communication boards, or AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices.

By providing these supports, we promote deeper connections with others and create greater opportunities for participation in everyday life. Our goal is to enhance communication in ways that feel meaningful, natural, and empowering.

At Rocket Health Services, we believe therapy should feel collaborative, engaging, and meaningful. From the very first appointment, our goal is to make children and families feel supported, informed, and empowered.
