School Readiness

Evidence-Based Therapy Programs

Preparing children for the transition to school is an important step in their early development. This stage involves building the social, emotional, and motor skills that form the foundation for success in a school environment.

At Rocket Health Services, we offer a comprehensive and individualised School Readiness Program designed to equip children with the skills they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. With a focus on holistic development, our program fosters confidence, resilience, and independence—ensuring a smooth and positive start to school life.

Preparing Your Child for School

The move to school is an exciting milestone but can also feel overwhelming. A successful transition means children are not only academically prepared but also socially and emotionally ready to engage in their new environment. Through structured activities and guided play, our program builds the foundational skills children need to approach school with confidence and enthusiasm.

Why School Readiness Matters

  • Foundation for Learning: develops focus, listening, and early academic readiness.

  • Social Adaptation: strengthens the ability to play, share, and collaborate with peers and teachers.

  • Emotional Preparedness: builds resilience and confidence to manage new environments and routines.

  • Cognitive Development: supports problem-solving, memory, and independent thinking.

  • Comprehensive Preparation: ensures children are well-rounded and ready to thrive in all aspects of school life

Examples of School Readiness Activities

  • Fine Motor Practice: pencil grip, scissor skills, and drawing to prepare for handwriting.

  • Turn-Taking & Play Skills: board games and group play to build cooperation and social interaction.

  • Self-Care Routines: practicing lunchbox use, upcoming routines, dressing skills, and toileting independence.

  • Classroom Skills: following instructions, sitting for group time, and transitioning between activities.

Emotional Regulation Strategies: learning calming techniques and building resilience for managing big feelings.

Starting school

Starting school is an exciting milestone, and with the right preparation, it can be a smooth and positive experience for both children and families. At Rocket Occupational Therapy, our School Readiness Program provides children with the social, emotional, cognitive, and motor skills they need to step into school with confidence.

By building resilience, independence, and enthusiasm for learning, we help children feel ready not just for the first day of school - but for all the opportunities that lie ahead.

What to expect

Here’s what families can expect

At Rocket Health Services, we make the transition to school a confident and positive experience for every child and family. Our School Readiness Program combines evidence-based practice with engaging, play-focused learning to help children feel capable, prepared, and excited for their next chapter.

Initial Assessment and Goal Setting

We begin by getting to know your child — their strengths, interests, and areas where extra support may be needed. Through observation, discussion, and structured assessment, we identify key school-readiness goals together with families.

Individualised Program Design

Each plan is tailored to your child’s developmental profile and learning style, ensuring sessions focus on building core skills such as attention, fine motor coordination, social participation, and emotional regulation.

Family Collaboration and Home Strategies

We partner with families to make learning continuous. Parents receive simple, practical ideas to reinforce skills at home, supporting a smooth and consistent transition into school routines.

Progress Monitoring and School Liaison

We continuously evaluate outcomes and adjust goals as your child grows and develops. Progress reports are shared clearly, supporting ongoing collaboration with schools and other health professionals.

Our goal

Our goal is for every child to start school with confidence, resilience, and joy, equipped not just with academic readiness, but with the emotional and social foundations for lifelong learning.
